It’s a question many will face when it comes to cheap wedding photography in the UK or anywhere else for that matter. Is there any difference from one wedding photographer to another? How much value should I put on wedding photography? For the most part, only YOU can decide. This article, I hope will help give you some direction – read on to find out my thoughts.
It’s all about budget, right or is it about budget right?!
There’s no pretending that the costs of a wedding can climb sky-high. I know that if you’re knee-deep in planning, you’re probably already fed up of costs rocketing as soon as you even begin to say the word “wedding”. You might want to find some ways to cut costs, but you need to know the best ways to cut costs without compromising your perfect wedding. The cheap approach might even be tempting for some things. I’m here to tell you that if there’s one thing you don’t want for your wedding is cheap wedding photography. Cheap though doesn’t always mean bad wedding photography, but generally, as the old saying goes – “you get what you pay for”.
How Much Is Wedding Photography in the UK?
Before you begin looking for a wedding photographer, keep in mind that there is no set amount that a photographer costs. You can find various options at different price points, but it’s important to remember that the price will often reflect the quality. I know that you can hire someone who is just starting out and wants to build their portfolio for not very much at all. But if you want someone with experience, you’ll be paying more for your wedding photographer.
Factors Affecting Wedding Photographer Price
There are lots of things that affect how much your wedding photography might cost, and I can’t list all of them. Some of the things that could change how much you pay could include:
- The style of photography
- The amount of experience the photographer has
- Will the photographer have to travel
- How long the photographer will work for
- The number of photos you get and how they’re presented/delivered to you
These are all practical things to consider when hiring a wedding photographer, but it’s important to think about what you want from your wedding. There are some things to ponder when you’re planning your perfect wedding day, from how much money you have available to how you want to look back on your wedding day a few years down the line.
What about actual figures in ££’s?
Let’s look at the prices of hiring a wedding photographer for your wedding and how much in actual figures will it cost? There are many views on what it should cost and these are suggested as rough guidelines and cost will vary from area to area too, so if you are a couple looking for a London wedding photographer, then prices will reflect the status of the capital – in other words, expect to pay more than you would if you were looking for a wedding photographer in Kent.
My thoughts on wedding photography prices
Here are a few pointers on what I believe should be regarded as prices for wedding photographers as a general guide.
- £400 – £700. This is what I consider to be budget and At this price point, you really have to be careful when selecting a wedding photographer. You may well find a few gems here from photographers who are up and coming – some of their work is brilliant!
- £800 – £1400. I consider this price bracket to be where you find a real level of professionalism. These photographers will give you a great wedding photography experience and often include luxury items, such as wedding albums, etc.
- £2000 upwards. High-end wedding photography can go as high as £7000 just for coverage alone, though they will be the best you can get & a lot of them will be “real” award-winning photographers.
- If you can’t decide what bracket your “budget” falls into then a useful way of looking at it is using a percentage of your total wedding budget. as a guide, I would say roughly put aside 10% of your total budget towards photography. So if you have a wedding budget of £15000, then you should be looking at roughly £1500 for a wedding photographer.
Of course all of the above is just a guide and only you know how much importance you put on your wedding photography. Want some real stats on what wedding photographers charge? head over to your perfect wedding photographer and see for yourself.
The Importance of Good Wedding Photography
The ultimate question is whether good wedding photography is worth paying for. Is there even a big difference in quality between one photographer and the next? When you first start researching photography prices, it can seem expensive. Before you think about just what you’re paying for and compare it to costs for other parts of your wedding, you might be unsure about what exactly is a reasonable amount to pay. The first thing that you might want to do is get your priorities straight.
What are the most important elements of your wedding? Is it essential that all of your guests get to enjoy the most delicious food, or do you need to have a live band to entertain everyone? Think about where a photographer sits in your priorities and how important it is to have photos that you love. Remember that you will want to look back on your wedding photos for many years to come. When you start to compare the cost of wedding photography to how much other elements of your wedding cost, investing a bit more in photography doesn’t seem like a big deal. It’s essential to think about what you value and where wedding photography falls in your list of priorities.
It is important that you spend some time researching and doing your due diligence when looking for your perfect wedding photographer. It is imperative that they have plenty of previous work to view.
Make It a Personal Decision
Everyone needs to decide for themselves how much they’re willing to spend on a wedding photographer. Although there are lots of things that affect how much a photographer might cost, there are also plenty of things that can affect how much you’re willing to pay. You might start off thinking about your budget and how much you’re going to spend on your wedding all together. When it comes to allocating your funds, you then need to decide what matters to you most. But you need to get a balance between the essential things that you need and what’s not so important. For example, you need a venue that will hold the number of guests you have, but the specifics of that venue could be much looser.
Think about what you want from your wedding, and what matters most. If creating memories of the day is high on your list of priorities, you should be sure to find the perfect wedding photographer for your big day. Your wedding photos will remind you of how incredible the whole day was, and you will have them to look at for many years to come.
